#82 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2013
Region: Produced in the most important sub-section of the Valtellina Superiore area, situated west of Sondrio, and takes its name from the headland there.
Grape: Nebbiolo, 100%
Production method : The fermentation process takes place in stainless steel containers and involves 8 days when the must on the skins is incorporated by maceration, followed by a maturation period of 12 months in oak barrels and a further 8 months once bottled.
The wine: Purple-red in colour, with a bouquet exuding blueberries and blackberries, manifests a bold and well-defined flavour, robust yet silky and with a refreshing liquorice and almond finish.
A delightfully fragrant ‘mountain’ nebbiolo with a bouquet of blueberries and seductive silky palate. Valtellina wines from south-facing slopes in a long narrow valley at the top of Lake Como have a gentler style than their more robust cousins further south in Barolo and a great deal of charm.
